Germany has set itself the target of achieving climate neutrality by 2045. Developing a hydrogen infrastructure will play an instrumental role in this. To ensure that we can develop our production capacities in line with demand and maintain security of supply going forwards, EWE is carrying out a market survey to determine future hydrogen production requirements. This survey is aimed at all enterprises that have identified a need for hydrogen production in the future. This first stage simply aims to gain a non-binding declaration of interest from these enterprises. However, we will use the results of the survey in later stages of the process to help us plan our hydrogen production projects in a way that aligns with customer demand. All participants in the current market survey will be able to participate in these later stages.
We are currently working on establishing 400 MW of electrolysis capacity at our sites in Bremen and Emden.
We plan to raise this capacity to over 1 GW by 2030. Take this opportunity to complete the market survey and communicate your production requirements at this early stage of the process. This is your opportunity to help us plan and build a hydrogen production infrastructure that aligns with your specific needs.

When will the market survey take place?

Who can participate?
All enterprises that have identified a need for hydrogen production, and would like to reserve capacities in future, may complete the survey. (Potential) access to the core network is therefore an important prerequisite. If you are unsure about your (future) network access, we will be happy to meet with you to discuss this.
What sort of information will you need?
The market survey will ask you about your predicted hydrogen requirements and consumption profile. It will also ask about other relevant aspects, such as potential funding mechanisms, the location of the consumer and what the hydrogen will be used for.
What should we do if we are currently unable to quantify our production requirements?
You can still complete the survey. When you do so, there will be a space to indicate that you cannot yet quantify your production requirements, but would like to discuss them with us. We will then contact you to organise a meeting to discuss your needs and take them into consideration as part of the market survey.
What should we do if we are currently in the process of assessing our production requirements, but are unable provide concrete figures at this stage?
You can still complete the survey. When you do so, indicate that you cannot quantify your production requirements yet, but would like to discuss them with us. We will then contact you to organise a meeting to discuss how your results can be taken into consideration as part of the market survey.
How will our data be used?
The data you provide will be treated as confidential and will be used to make an initial estimate of the actual level of demand over the coming years. The results will help us to develop production capacities that will meet market demand and enable us to take a customer-centric approach to our strategic planning.
How binding is the information we provide about future demand?
All information provided via our market survey tool will be considered strictly indicative and will not constitute a binding order or similar.
Will the data be published?
No, no customer-specific data will be published. The only data that may be communicated publicly will be aggregated, such as the total demand reported or the total number of enterprises that respond.
